Featuring ceramic honeycomb woofers and midrange drivers along with a damped Beryllium dome tweeter, the measured distortion is less than 0.5% at normal listening levels. These drivers, when mounted in their Pat. Pending Triple Wall Laminate noise reducing cabinet, will reproduce the sonic tapestry with clarity and musicality that we have all been searching for. The VR-55 MkII represents over 40-years of our proprietary sound engineering!
In it’s standard configuration, the VR-55 MkII is offered as a traditional and purely passive reference loudspeaker with extremely accurate linear response from the factory.
But for those interested in achieving the optimum linear response in their room with the fastest, tightest and deepest bass possible, we offer the VR-55 MkII Aktive version which incorporates our proprietary 800w R.M.S. Amplifiers.
With traditional passive speakers, the listening room will dictate not only where the speakers will need to be placed but also how good the bass will ultimately sound. With our VR-55 MkII Aktive version, each channel incorporates a 800-watt built-in R.M.S. Amplifier between the woofer binding posts and the passive crossover network for the dual bass drivers. Von Schweikert Audio is pleased to present their newest addition to our flagship lineup, the ULTRA 7 which began development nearly three years ago.
So what is the ULTRA 7?
First off, it’s an ULTRA model which means it shares all the sonic and structural DNA of our other ULTRA reference loudspeakers. In this instance, it’s simply a different configuration of those previous designs that hopefully will be the “sweet spot” for some audiophiles in performance, aesthetics and ultimately budget.
SYSTEM TYPE
The ULTRA 7 firmly carves out a place between the very room friendly ULTRA 55 and the dominant ULTRA 9 and in our opinion, shares the most compelling features of both. The ULTRA 7 footprint and overall height is not much greater than the ULTRA 55 so the speaker will fit into even a small sound room very comfortably and yet, can pressurize a very large sound room with little effort; especially when paired with our Shockwave Subwoofers. But the ULTRA 7 benefits from almost all the technology of our ULTRA 9 specifically in the Room Adjustment Control Suite. This monitor uses very high quality drivers designed by Scanspeak of Denmark. Since the twin 7in (178mm) bass-mids have to reproduce both the bass and midrange frequencies, it is a challenge to design a driver that will reproduce the human voice with extreme clarity, while also being asked to reproduce deep bass frequencies at a high volume level. In order to obtain the maximum vocal intelligibility, the LCR-4 uses specially designed drivers that were optimized for this function, and consist of high-tech laminated cones driven by patented Low Distortion Motors. The Scan designed 1” tweeter has a long throw, chambered rear cavity to reduce resonance, a specially treated fabric dome, and the Low Distortion Motor. This tweeter combines both high details with extremely smooth sound, especially in the important vocal range.
To ensure extreme clarity in the vocal range, we have eliminated cavity resonance by using a sealed box design, and to eliminate the cabinet wall distortion, we have utilized our Triple-Wall Noise Canceling Technology. By bonding three different materials together, included resin-impregnated MDF, artificial stone, and rubberized felt in a 2.75” thick composite, the opposing Q’s of these materials cancel the natural tendency of the walls to vibrate.In order to synchronize the bass-mids with the tweeter, we have employed our Global Axis Integration Network, a 4th order crossover slope which is phase consistent and has almost zero distortion. Since we are not pushing the drivers outside of their intended operating range, the clarity of the LCR-4 is at the state-of-the-art level, which is extremely important for vocal intelligibility in a center channel application and has no problem keeping up with our large floor-standing left and right main speakers.

VSA’s engineering team succeeded in converting our proprietary Triple-Wall Noise Cancelling technology to operate in these smaller cabinets. Three different materials with opposing Q factors are used to build the cabinet walls, resulting in clarity that must be heard to be appreciated. The 65mm (2.75″) thick walls consist of 20mm resin impregnated fiberboard, 20mm artificial stone, 20mm rubberized felt, and 5mm vibration-proof adhesive layers. This cabinet wall design is superior to aluminum, plywood, or MDF, based on measurements of panel ringing.

Our engineering goal for the ShockWave design encompasses three primary objectives. First, a high speed transient response that can be finely adjusted to match any mini-monitor or planar speaker in existence. When correctly adjusted, the ShockWave cannot be heard as a separate source of sound. Next, vanishingly low levels of coloration and distortion so that the subwoofer does not call attention to itself or degrade the primary speakers in any way. Room-correction is supplied in the form of an infinitely adjustable Parametric Equalizer, which can help you eliminate or greatly reduce your room’s contribution to poor bass reproduction.
